To many of us Western Australia is the last frontier. Because of its distance, getting there and back is a holiday in itself depending on whether you choose any of the scenic Highways to the Great Australian Bight or you come via the north from the Top End. Why not consider travelling one way by the famous Indian Pacific Train and meet your coach in Perth?
Once you're there, the sheer size and vastness of the State provides so many climatic regions and differences than any other State. For example, the southwest is a Mediterranean climate, the northwest is monsoonal and in between is a huge, rainless desert. You need to keep these climates in mind when planning your holiday.
Anytime throughout the year is fine to visit Perth and the South West but there can be no doubt the added attraction of the Springtime wildflower displays provide the best touring season. Allowing around 20 days from the east making your way across the Nullarbor Plain and the Great Australian Bight, a spectacular shoreline of 100 metre cliffs. Stop in at Kalgoorlie, that magic name which has lured fortune hunters from around the world. Follow the coast via beautiful seaside destinations like Esperance and Albany, each with their unique attractions and scenic vistas including the amazing Pink Lake.
Travel to the Valley of the Giants taking a truly breathtaking ride through the towering forests followed by a canopy walk. The booming Margaret River Wine region is now a must see on every tour and the short detour to Wave Rock and Hippo's Yawn are standard inclusions.
Arrive in Perth, regarded as one of the prettiest cities in the World. Take a cruise along the Swan River, tour historic Fremantle and the Docks, enjoy the beautiful Zoological Gardens or plan a day cruising out to the famous Rottenest Island. From your base here in Perth it's easy to plan day trips to the eerie Pinnacles in Nambung National Park and New Norcia, a Benedictine Mission that looks like it was transported intact from Europe.

As you move further north a wonderful new world of attractions unfold. Kalbarri National Park is famous for its stunning gorge scenery as well as its wildflowers, Monkey Mia is the only place in the word where dolphins mingle with humans at Shark Bay and the Ningaloo Reef at Coral Bay is home to over 200 species of coral and abundant marine life which you can discover from a semi-submersible cruise.
Great industrial towns like Port Headland, Exmouth and Tom Price allow a diversion from the natural beauty of the coast but nearby is the Karijini National Park with its unbelievable gorges and waterfalls. Don't miss Fortescue Falls and Joffre Gorge for inspiring views and photo shots.
Arrive in Broome, the tropical resort town that was once the pearling capital of the world. Make sure you allow at least 2 nights here to really capture the magic of a sunset across Cable Beach, the unique history of the early pearling days and the Chinese influence on the town.
Further north is Gieke Gorge with its unusual white-banded walls while the option of a Kimberley experience at El Questro Resort is becoming a popular inclusion for many tours. You'll want to see the Argyle Diamond Mine before exploring Kununurra and its magnificent Lake Argyle, demanding a 2 day stopover before planning the journey home.
